Billie Jean King on being your authentic self

 Pride in London 2024

On the last day of Pride Month 2024, I think this is a salient note to end on. After reading Billie Jean King's autobiography 'All In', I feel I understand her better. She shows the power of communication whether spoken, as here, or through the written word.

Do listen to her below in this Facebook video👇

Billie being authentic

It all comes back to being your authentic self. Don't let people bully or threaten or scare you out of it. Stand up for yourself. Be courageous like Anne Lister and the suffragettes: Shout it from the rooftops.📢 Don't let people ruin your life and happiness, be they a homophobic family, company, or institution of any kind. You can't say you've been successful until you've acknowledged your real, authentic self.

You have to loudly tell your truth.📢Don't let people tell you you can't, it's never been done before. Or make you feel guilty over something they claim you've done that you haven't. They're the guilty ones gaslighting your reality, your truth. You're only productive if you are your authentic self, which is why there's so much push against people being their authentic selves.

Was it always easy for Billie? Hell, no! But she overcame her fear time and time again. This courage Billie displays is something to carry forward into our lives. Let's do this together as gay people, and as true, non-discriminatory feminists. (Although quite a few feminists are also bigots, sadly).

Let's tell truth to power📢 and overcome fears to lead authentic lives that many are trying to prevent us from doing, almost exclusively the exceedingly far right, and ultra orthodox Christians, such as Roman Catholics /the Vatican (theocratic monarchy)who have far too much power which, frankly, they abuse whilst pretending to be saintly really.
